Hi All! Dropped by for my regular visit to see what was new with Rightgrrl, and caught the end of this SPAMARAMA! One thing about disruptors; it's proof that the message was hitting home. Since they (meaning the disruptors) can't refute the message, they have to shoot the messanger! Isn't it amazing that when the SPAMMERS whine and cry about free speech, they conveniently refuse to acknowledge another person's right NOT TO LISTEN to their drivel.

Ted and Avatar are the same. He also signed as "Ted Stevens", "Ted Paliobeis", "Frank" and "Joe" (the Hardy Boys?), "The Voice of Reason", "The Truth" and lately as "Excelsior". Despite "Ted"'s claims to the contrary, it is the same person. His posts on Carolyn's guestbook, this one, and my board all share the same terminal number, when he moves from to the other. It also coincided with the appearance of CWRU.EDU and SHPL.LIB.OH.US ("Ted", of course, thinks we're hunting him, when in fact he's leaving a big-ass trail of bread crumbs everywhere he posts).

Just to reply to the factual comment:
I was operating under the assumption Ted and Avatar were the same. Maybe they are not. Avatar has repeatedly denied he is a pedophile. I have not seen Ted say he is. I have seen plenty of others say he is.

You're "disappointed", are you, David?
Did you skip the post in which "Ted" refers to himself as a "pedophile"? That was, of course, our first clue. He doesn't say he'd had relations with children (something of which I've never accused you, Ted), nor that he even would. But he did refer to himself, once of which I am aware, as a "pedophile". Is that enough to justify us calling him a
"pedophile"?
This man whom you feel is worthy of your admiration refers to me as a NAZI, fascist, white trash, a cretin, "a liar, hypocrite and ignoramous", and an alcoholic, simply because I have prevented him from doing something he feels is his right: to post whatever he wants, about whatever he choses, at my website.
What this lonely little man has done for the better part of two weeks, is use public access terminals to embark on nothing more than an internet temper tantrum.
And his obsessive attempts to access my website, David, were not to instruct we whom you feel are too immature to talk to this enlightened soul, but this: "This is Ted. Mike: Be sure to hurray [sic] and cut off my access from this site. My goal to [sic] to cut off access to your site from every public terminal in my town. Don't you really think you've gone to extreme lengths with this nonsense. What are you so afraid of? The Truth?"
Yes, David, you are the only person who feels as you do about this man who has spent at two weeks hiding in his anonymity, saying what he pleases about me, responding to everyone else as if they are shit under his feet, and basically demonstrating, all day and every day, his utter contempt for anyone who does think like him, or like me, those who do not wish to hear what he thinks at all.

Re: "Ted" : I guess I'm alone in my opinion here. And maybe I'm all wrong. And I know I'm not one to talk... But I am ... I dunno ... incensed and deeply *deeply* disapointed by the cacophony of howls and laughter about this guy. Is this really just me?
I should say I've only read what he's said on TGP and Carolyn's GB, but I guess that applies to many of those whose behaviour I am disapointed in too. Maybe he deserves it all. But I just don't see it from what he's written.
WHY are you all acusing him of being a peadophile? That's _despicable_. It's sickening. All he's said is the age of consent is too high! I'm appaled. But not at *him*. Frankly I don't know how he stays so calm!! It reminds me of a pack of school bullies beating up on the quiet smart kid. I've been that kid, and maybe that's why I'm the only one (surely not the *only* one?!) not leaping to condemen here.
WHO is Ted? He has a lot of time and he posts from a library. He's smart but he has a certain... Mm... naivety. I think he might just possibly be a kid himself. Wouldn't that be ironic? Just short of the age of consent maybe. A bunch of "adults" beating up on a kid all in the name of preventing abuse of kids by adults.
Sorry Ted, whoever you are. You're right - we are not mature enough to discuss this topic. Not even nearly. Really they are not this bad normally. I hope you *do* apologise to ~Sass for claiming she censored you. She would never do something like that, and you seem to have upset her [and I contributed no doubt, for which I apologise too]. I also think it would show your attackers, better than anything else, just where their 'moral high ground' lies.

Hello Ted (below) If you all don't know Ted, he is on various message
boards defending pedophilia. Anyway, yes! I did block JSU from
Rightgrrl this morning, for my amusement.
I wanted to see how long it took him to run over to the library again.
It took Ted less than half an hour from the time he tried to access
rightgrrl 'till he ran to the library to post.
If I truly wanted to block you, Ted, Avatar, or whatever name you are using today,
I'd block the library, (where you are now)
which I haven't done.
But please, see my post on free
speech on why, if I choose, I do have the right to block access from any place I choose.
Your amusement factor has worn off, so I'm done with you.
PS
Ted still claims that the "right wing" is after him, even though just as many liberals are in disagreement with him.

supreme on the silly Righgirrls site.
What an infanitle name for a website!
You seek to ban, suppress and jail
everyone who disagrees with you. No
wonder the conservative movement is in
such trouble. You people make yourself
look foolish everytime you open your mouths. And did you know Carolyn cut
access to her site from the John Carroll
University library earlier today because
she complained of insults. I'd urge
her to look at the post preceding mine.
Will you ban this guy as well? Of
course not. Conservatives who insult
and accuse others of child abuse without
benefit of evidence get a free pass.

heavy duty psychologcial help.

Oh no. Ted found this place.
Stop pushing your pro-child RAPE agenda and get a heart instead
of letting your penis run the show. Only the sickest and most cruel of bastards would dare to advocate forcing sex upon a small body and innocent mind not yet ready for adult sexual experience. I'm glad everyone's telling that library about you. I hope they ban you, and I hope you're arrested if you're already involved in raping children. I don't care if you say it's not "rape"... children cannot truly give informed and free consent, and their bodies are NOT ready for the assault you wish to give them.

Carolyn responds to Ted, and explains some basic freedom of speech concepts.
l ABUSE of children (and what you defend IS abuse) is a CRIME and should always be treated as such. NO child can truly "consent" to anything like that.
I'm sure you probably also made life miserable for any others reading these messages, who also suffered sexual abuse as children. I hope you're happy with yourself.

Ted babbled --> I find it amusing that Sass is apparently censoring her board just as Mike Brown censored his.
I find it amusing that you had the stupidity to post that. For those that would like a disctionary definition of the stupidity of this...check out TGP to see how and why Ted is truly BABBLING.
Ted babbling still--> You people do seem to
have such a problem with free speech, don't you? [babble snipped] more Ted babble--> That's why they can't debate worth a damn. When they begin to lose a debate, they just censor. [more babble snipped] All they have left is censoring opinion on their crazy little websites. Hilarious. Ted joeFrankavatar Stevens
You do seem to have a problem posting credible facts oh babbling one, don't you? TGP is not censored, moderated, and you (despite your little pretend "I've been blocked but I'm such a genious I found a way in" game) have been free to post all along, and have. Your screed is still up on the board. As for THD, it is "censored" only to the amount of personal attacks such as the "you're a *bleep* type. Posts that are off-topic (THD is a one topic board) are not censored either, but rather the author gets time to move them to TGP before they are deleted.
So, it is your moronic accusations that point out who is unable to debate. Those that can... debate. Those that cannot... make up stories about how they have been "blocked" and continue posting under other handles, swearing that the original person is "blocked" and therefore excusing themselves from being made to look the fool. Oh! Too late...

Well Carolyn, I've been told by the
Cleveland Hts library main branch that
you and Mike and several hunderd of
your fascist brethern have deluged
them with complaints about me. This
was an obvious organized attempt to
silence me. That's the kind of censorship I'm talking about. And, of
course, a gentleman named David seems
to have run afoul of Sass, who has
apparently wiped her board clean in
response. Do you realize how nuts you
people are? To organize such a campaign
against one person is so extreme that
it boggles the mind. Just like when
the right went after Clinton, you people
are so excessive and heavy handed in
your techniques that you end up looking
like fools. What are the stakes involved here. Your site and Mike's
are just slightly crazy and politically
irrelevent outposts of anti-intellectualism. Nobody really
cares about what's posted here. It
makes not one whit of difference. You
people really ought to lighten up and
grow up. You're not going anywhere
politically. Loosen up and have some
fun, will you? Although, I must say
I'm flattered by all the attention. I
must have really shaken you people up.
The truth tends to do that to those
who live in a benighted religious mys-
ticism. By the way, have you learned
about argument by analogy yet? You
really ought to study the rules of
argument and debate. If you did, you
would not make such a fool of yourself
all the time.

Carolyn
USA - Tuesday, June 29, 1999 at 16:21:10 (EDT) from carolyn.interstat.net
I find it amusing that Sass is apparently censoring her board just as
Mike Brown censored his. You people
do seem to have such a problem with
free speech, don't you? This is what
is wrong with the right. They can't
tolerate dissent. They wish to present
a monolithic front in order to convince
themselves that everybody thinks as
they do. And they harm themselves in
the process. They can't effectively
put forward their ideas to non-conservaties because they're not
used to interacting with them. That's
why they can't debate worth a damn. When they begin to lose a debate, they
just censor. That's why Bob Dole and
Jack Kempt were eaten alive by the
magnificent President Clinton and Vice
President Gore--the two gentlemen responsible for giving us the most robust economy in US history. Ah yes,
the forces of fascism are now contained
for good. All they have left is censoring opinion on their crazy little
websites. Hilarious.

I am not trying to invalidate David's feelings, I find him rather intelligent and interesting despite alot of criticism he has gotten on THD. Even though I disagree on some of his premises in this affair, it needs exploration as their may be hurt feelings on both sides. This discussion needs to be taken to the Graffitti wall as ANY ongoing thing is NOT appropos to Rightgrrl's GB. I will post on this there, and welcome David and you to join me... :^)

David, I will reply ONCE here, and other than that, I will respect Carolyn and Stephanie's guestbook whether you will or not. It seems that you will not rest until you have maligned me publicly, I suspect, to feel vindicated for your "perceived" mistreatment at THD.
The "accusations" you feel I made at you, I have tried to explain to you following the numerous emails you sent me. You have made it clear that no explanation other than the one you want will suffice. I will not be bullied into saying that things were/are how I feel they were/are not, simply by your following me around and trying to embarass me. In addition, the posts that you describe as being "deleted quickly" were part of the posts that were up in the 24 hour period that I indicated would result in the entire board being purged following the caca that went on between a *bunch* of people. As everyone will recall, I placed the board on moderated and requested that people not post until I cleared the offensive posts (which included posts that were offensive to you that were to be deleted), but people kept submitting posts anyway and emailing me asking why they weren't up or accusing me of censoring *their* posts. To solve the problem, I posted in LARGE letters, that I would place the board back up... allow 24 hours for everyone to see that all their posts were up and not censored... and then I said I'd wipe the board clean. The posts you refer to being "deleted quickly" at THD were due to that event, and you know it.
What you see as "abuse of power", I see as you being terribly immature. I am entitled to post at my own site, and convey my personal opinions and feelings about the issue and/or the people involved in the issue and/or the people debating the issue. I think that I distinguish what is posted as my personal contribution to the board, and what is my contribution as a moderator. When I post as the moderator, I let others know that I am posting in that capacity, by noting that it is a "service message" or something like that. I DID NOT post my feelings to you/about you as a message from the pov of "the moderator", but rather as my PERSONAL views. If you are not able to separate that, and think that as a moderator, I am not allowed to post personal feelings about anything, then I again will re-iterate that you don't *have* to post at a board of mine. I have said that to others as well as you, and will again whether they be pro-life or pro-choice. I welcome anyone, but I will not take caca simply because someone feels that because I am the moderator, that I cannot step aside from that and post my own personal feelings.
As for the introductions... you make far too much of the ratios. As a pro-lifer, I will contribute to boards sponsored by pro-choicers, but honestly, I haven't made too any efforts to "sign up" there either. Do I follow them around and quote the disproportionate number of lifers to choicers that are part of their "gang"? I do not. You make it appear as if there is something far more sinister going on... and based on the obvious problem that you have with the fact that you wer your email anymore? Not that I could blame her if
she did. From the sound of you, I would use those email blocksender
spamkiller devices if I were her, but I doubt even this much of your
story is true, stop grandstanding! I can only conclude this is all a
delusion of yours. You can say anything you like anywhere you wish it's a
free country. You are only being *politely* asked to obey POSTING NETIQUETTE RULES, and that
is NOT equivalent to censorship!
> Whatever! You claim to be pro
>life and I am wrong that I am pro choice. I was beeing nice to you I
>respect your opinion.
Yes. And you are. In PC, a female person is not accountable for their
sexual actions/maternity, and must *forcibly abuse* TWO OTHER parties in
aborting. She cannot take the action without "rights raping" of *TWO*
*other* persons. One dies, the other loses parental rights and may oppose
abortion and feel it is murder, and all available evidence supports that
contention under science, thus causing permanent emotional damage to that
innocent victim, possibly leading to a post abortion stress related SUICIDE.
Nonconsensually. Once a woman is pregnant, it is too late to take the
baby back and change your mind. Much the same logic is why rape is a
crime. So should abortion. No consent is possible from *all* other deeply
involved parties or is required, which is why Roe cannot be
Constitutional or a privacy issue. Pro-choice ideology, which is
inherently deviant and dysfunctional, GROSSLY excuses personal
responsibility from the pregnant female.
Gargaro (possibly referring to an email exchange): "As for respect,
many of your comments, such as, "I can out class you any time You are not
worth my time or trouble" seemed a little less that respectful."
I agree wholeheartedly. Attacking the *person* doesnt refute their
ideas, it only shows the poster is using ad hominem to hopefully avoid
losing face after a defeat which only shows others that you are desparate
and grasping at straws. As for class, Carolyn has ALOT of it, and you
obviously do not to say such spiteful things, likely as a result of
losing arguments, possibly on abortion. You are showing *ZERO class* to
laughably misjudge and misrepresent her fine character, to which I can
personally attest is fair and even handed. I and everyone else that knows
her are offended at these unfounded insulting claims.
If you feel you have a weak case for "abortion rights" then it it is
not a matter of time or trouble, it is a matter of not having the facts
on your side. Perhaps you should rethink your stance on abortion. Maybe
Rightgrrl's fundamental "editorial" presumption that abortion *harms*
women, viciously maiming them, *could* be *correct*, read this:
Abortioncan KILL or maim or mentally damage for life unsuspecting women!
But this is not a place for ongoing debate as you were politely told
SaturnNSun. If you feel a need to speak your pro-abortion mind, go to the
HOT DEBATE board on abortion, a link given to you by this site's
webmaster. I would love to show you the truth on abortion and its
intrinsic pathology, but please refrain from these
childish offensive personal attacks on Rightgrrl's webmaster. It is very
immature and silly.

Canadians do, in fact, have safer communities. However, Canadians (who
have been heavily propagandized), routinely miss the point about gun
control. The US Constitution is a system of checks and balances designed
(among other things) to ensure against a monarchy or totalitarian government. Most of these checks and balances are
procedural. The Second Amendment, on the other hand, (right to bear
arms), is not procedural. Among other things, it guarantees this:
if American government officials ever do install a totalitarian
regime, oridinary American citizens can take them out by force. Canadians
currently do not have that advantage and we'll never relinquish it,
because in that moment, the last "free" nation on the planet will fall.
Canadians at this point haven't even the right to free speech. Oh, don't
miss understand me; I'm not a racist, but if you limit one form of
speech, you can limit others. In Canada, racist rhetoric is unlawful.
Canadians have allowed their government to dictate what
forms of speech and thought they can and cannot engage in, and that's
very sad. here in America, we have a different view.
The truth
is, if Russia or China decided to step out and over Bering Straits, (an
admittedly unlikely scenario), they'd meet their greatest challenge not
in MO, where some of the heaviest weaponry resides, but in Washington,
Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Nevada, where Americans are armed to the
teeth. Military folks often speak of the massive army that China can
raise but that's nothing compared to the civillian army that is
America.
Our problem is permissiveness and a failure to socialist
government. sorry canadian lady, i will take my country and my gun culture

Brenda,
So much for the theory that gun control laws are followed only by
law-abiding citizens!
The fact that some criminals might be limited by existing law doesn't
necessarily mean they wilingly obeyed the law that limited their
behavior. Which, to be sure, is an argument supporting gun control laws.
(I personally don't believe any law will prevent its respective crime
absolutely -- the main purpose of a law is to define and thus to
determine punishment for a crime, but that's probably another issue for
another day...)
Regarding the fact that Klebold and Harris committed suicide -- when I
first learned of this my reaction was that probably NOTHING could have
prevented their crime if they were willing to die in order to carry it
out. But we've since learned that these two tried to escape the building
three separate times but were stopped by police gunfire. According to
their diaries, they hadn't initially planned to kill themselves... it
seems to be an amendment to their plan, once they realized they were
trapped.
But I must admit that you never set pen to paper without making salient
arguments, and you do have a point that criminals are no more likely to
respond to calls of personal responsibility than they are to calls for
gun control. That's not exactly my argument, however... I think if you
can instill a sense of personal responsibility in kids at a young age
(along with a few other ideals), that the criminal mindset can be, on the
whole, avoided (which, again, addresses larger issues I can't expound on here).
But, you do make a good point.

Brenda, I was referring to your support for stricter gun control laws
except in the Littleton, Co. situation in which you acknowledged they
wouldn't have prevented the slaughter there.
As for the Alberta law, we still don't know if the law was really
responsible for keeping that young man from bringing a more lethal gun to
school or he just wasn't that experienced a criminal yet to acquire it on
the black market or even make one himself - its amazing what kids can
make for themselves these days.
What the NRA and conservatives advocate are laws that focus on punishing
the criminal misuse of guns. Littleton does not detract from this focus
because few criminals are set on taking their own
lives by suicide. And if such laws were enforced, they would be a
deterrent to those intent on wielding a gun for felonious purposes. The
other part of the conservative response to Littleton is acquainting
adults and children with the responsible use of guns.
Which brings me to what Stephanie said about brandishing a gun. I may
have given the impression its alright to brandish a gun in public, which
I don't, but I'd like to thank Stephanie for rephrasing my thought, which
is that a law-abiding individual would let a criminal know he or she has
a means of self protection. Anyway, in CCW states, people carry
_concealed weapons_ which amounts to a disguised deterrence that works
beautifully because it raises uncertainty in a criminal as to whether to
attack a given individual. And Professor Lott cited a "halo" effect that
invariably benefits people who never carry guns due to criminals'
inability to determine who packs a gun and who doesn't.
So yes, one should remember that under the right circumstances, guns save
more lives than they take them. And the interesting thing is the
defensive use of guns is one that receives too little mention in our
media; I think Stephanie related in an earlier post about a friend of hers
in Chicago who had a gun and lived to tell the tale. And incidents like
these should be considered before jumping to the simple-minded conclusion
that _all_ use of guns in American society does not have a positive good,
which is the rationale behind the push for more gun control laws.

Stephanie, I know you weren't advocating that; I'm sure others
realized it too. One thing I plan to teach my children (when we take them for gun safety
classes once they are older) is that you NEVER point a gun at ANY person
OR animal unless you intend to use it in self-defense. The NRA teaches
this very pointedly in their gun safety classes for children.
I own several guns but, as the mom of three small children I always keep
my guns unloaded, barrels out, locked up in the gun cabinet, and in a
separate room from the ammo. With small children in the home you can
never be too careful. Our guns only come out when we are going to the range.

Norman, in the second paragraph of my last post I stated that I do not
think that stricter gun laws would have prevented the Columbine tragedy,
so a "with all due respect" was perhaps misplaced. That having been said,
something interesting that I found out after I posted that is that there
were only two bullets in the gun used in the Alberta
shooting...incidentally, one of the gun control laws in Alberta
(I don't know if it's nationwide) is that guns that can hold more than
two bullets at a time are prohibited. So much for the theory that gun
control laws are followed only by law-abiding citizens!
Obviously this was not enough to stop the Alberta shooting (which is what
we should ultimately be trying to do) but I am convinced that it did minimize
it. If this student's gun could have held more than two bullets at a time, I'll bet that there would have been more damage.
Clearly, the problem is deeper than availability of guns, but it's
also a lot deeper than many conservatives will allow. Sure, criminals
can't be trusted to obey gun regulations, and one commentary that I hear
time and again from the right side of the political spectrum is "Teach
kids personal responsibility! Punish criminals!" Well, guess what -
criminals don't go for personal responsibility any more than they go for
gun control. If they did, perhaps gun apologists should instead be
putting their money where their mouths are and trying to influence crime
rates by means of personal responsibility on the parts of criminals.
Instead, they seem in many cases to have written off any such
possibility, choosing instead to cite their favourite form of crime
control: "More guns. States with less gun control have less crime." As
for stiffer penalties, let's remember something: the kids in the
Columbine shooting committed suicide. What would they have done
differently if murderers were given death sentences or jailed for life -
said to themselves, "Hey, maybe we shouldn't kill a dozen people and then
ourselves...we could go to jail for it"???
The United States is trapped in a vicious circle of crime. Gun control
WON'T work in the US because of the mentality, both on the parts of the
crime-comitting and the law-abiding, that people only behave when they're
under the gun. American gun apologists write off the fact that crime
rates in Canada are lower than crime rates in states with concealed-carry
laws with "it's a different culture." Well, if anyone's willing to leave
his or her gun at home, you're invited over to my city next week. Here,
we watch American TV, I work for an American company, we have American
franchises on every corner, and American bands play at the local bars.
Gee...the only thing I see missing is the American gun attitudes and the
American crime. Well, and the American health care system. In the
meantime, I'll keep going to work here and paying 25% of my (student)
salary to taxes, and I'll continue going outdoors at night without a
weapon and not feel like I need one in order to feel safe. Different
culture? Yes. I'll stick with mine, thanks.

Lest I sound as if I'm recommending the brandishing of weapons -- I'm not.
Not only wouldn't I brandish a weapon unless I intended to use it...
I wouldn't CARRY a weapon unless I intended to use it.
And on the highway/freeway, brandishing a weapon is an aspect of road
rage that only escalates tensions. That's an entirely different situation
than what I described -- someone simply informing a criminal (that
already intends to do harm) that he or she has means of self-protection.

Most people who encounter an armed criminal just brandish a gun,
not even firing one which saves their lives.
This is very true -- a friend of mine does exactly that when he's in bad
neighborhoods of Chicago. Pulling up alongside drug dealers who actually
sometimes approach his car(!), he places his gun sidways up against his
windshield and these individuals inevitably turn around and go back to their corner. He doesn't point it -- he presents it, and that's enough.

With all due respect to Brenda, I think its clear _no_ gun control
either on the books in the U.S or in Canada or now under consideration
would have prevented the tragedy at Columbine High or the shooting in Alberta.
What gun control laws are very effective at doing is disarming the very people
who might need a gun to protect themselves. Most people who encounter an
armed criminal just brandish a gun, not even firing one which saves their
lives. That is the same reason cops draw their guns on a suspect when they make an arrest: to save lives, not
to kill someone. Incidentally, the best argument against gun control was
made by Professor John Lott
in his book More Guns Less Crime which showed that states with more permissive
gun control laws actually have a lower homicide rate! No one from the anti-gun
side has yet refuted his rather detailed findings.
And for those like Brenda who think we need to have stricter gun control laws,
the question that needs to be asked is why the laws currently on the books
are _not_ being enforced??? Let's deal with that issue before more restrictions
are needlessly imposed upon law-abiding citizens.
I'd like to just say something briefly about the posts on kids - and the issue
that's not being addressed is where are the parents in all this. Of course
parents today lead busy lives and can't be expected to be around their children
every minute of the day, but they surely should be able to level with their kids and find out what's going on. And if parents and their kids can't
communicate so kids' anger and alienation is addressed before its too late, parents have already failed. It's time parents gave as much attention to what's happening inside their families as they do to their jobs.

For once I agree with Shelbie on something! (the applause is deafening!)
I have pondered this whole issue of what our children are becoming....the
shootings have made me think about it even deeper. And seeing how some
kids in my own neighborhood act (especially something yesterday that
happened) makes me wonder WHO is minding the children??
Children today, so many of them, seem to have no consciences...no
manners....no civilty...and it is beginning at an even earlier age. I saw
a 10 year old moon his mother two years ago, right in front of my house,
when she told him to stop doing something. And that's minor!
I wish I knew what the root of this really is....Violence on TV? Parents
not caring about what their kids are doing or where they are? Latchkey
kids?WHAT? These kids supposedly came froim good homes, so that's not
it, right? So what IS it?
This kind of stuff is one bnig reason why I chose to homeschool! And on
online friend of mine last week said she is going to homeschool now too,
because she is just too scared to let her kids go to school. And she
lives in a "good" area!
Another friend of mine has said she thinks kids are under tremendous
pressure to excel, and this makes them snap. Maybe that's why this sort
of thing has happened only in "good" areas and not "The Inner City".
As a mother, a parent, I just don't know what this world is coming to
anymore. My homeschooling listserv is discussing this too....we worry that no matter how well we aise our kids, it's the OTHER ones that need to be worried about.

Now.. on to better things, Stephanie! Your article on Columbine High was
heart wrenching! It must have been awfully hard actually being there
staring that tragedy in the face. Too bad we can't send all of the
nation's teens there to see what that type of destruction does to
innocent families. Maybe they would think twice before pulling copycat
stunts or joking about this issue. I for one am terrified of my children
turning to teenagers. These parents claimed to have NO idea their kids
would do such an awful thing. How can you not see some signs? It just baffles me.

I knew that it was just a matter of time before this one came up.
Americans, using the Alberta school shooting as an example of gun control
not working is only going to backfire on you. Alberta is a province of
gun owners - hunters, target shooters, farmers, etc...who like their guns
as much as the Americans on this board do. There is less gun control in
Alberta than in any other province. As far as Canada goes, Alberta is the
most American of provinces in terms of gun attitudes. So, while
gun-owning and gun-supporting Americans who are not knowledgeable about
Canadian culture say 'I told you so', people who know about gun laws and
attitudes in Canada will note that it was the province with the
least gun control which was the first to experience this offshoot of American culture.
For the record, I support gun control, but I do not see the Columbine
tragedy as an additional reason to support it. I do think that some of
the other school shootings would have been averted with stricter gun
control, but not this one. It was too elaborate, too premeditated. And
anyone who thinks that gun control laws alone are the solution to
violence in the States is quite mistaken.
